You don’t need to ever have held a sword before.

Rapier + Longsword

We teach basic cuts, footwork and guards.

We teach you how to move, 4 ways of defending yourself and how to attack. Later we do sequences of moves where you have to pick the right response to an attack.

Advanced Classes

Beginners are also welcome.

Rapier + Longsword

We go back and forth between techniques from historical texts, taught by Vicky, and olympic fencing tactics adapted for historical weapons by Troels.

Program

  1. Footwork warm-up drills.

  2. Then drills from both historical sources and modern fencing with layers of increasing complexity.

  3. After that everyone lines up and sparring begins. Everyone gets at least a 3 minute match against everyone else.

  4. During the sparring and throughout the evening individual lessons are also given to fencers.

Free-Fighting

Circle Sparring. 3 minute fights. Everyone vs. Everyone.

Passing by? Want to train, but don’t see your weapon?

We do mixed weapon sparring on both Tuesdays and Thursdays to cap off the day’s classes around 20:00.

Use whichever weapons you want. Two sabres vs. Longsword? Sure, why not?

If you’re a die-hard longsworder come by and try fighting rapiers or sabres. Fencing against mis-matched weapons is a great way to deepen your understanding of your own weapon of choice because it forces you to re-consider distance, reach and where your advantages lie.

You don’t have to attend the classes before coming to Free-Fighting. Feel free to just drop by.

Study Groups & Free-Fighting + Mixed Weapons

Dive deeper into a specific style, or try some odd weapon combinations.

Fridays are for

  • Deep dives in Individual Historical Styles

  • One-to-one Lessons

  • Free fighting with any combination of weapons you like (sabre, rotella, spear, double rapiers - go wild)

Training is more loose.
