Swords

The swords are made by modern smiths from all over the world. They work hard to make them handle as close to their historical cousins as possible.

The blades are blunted and the tips are made safe for training. The steel is flexible so the blades bend slightly when a thrust lands, again for safety.

Fencing Jackets

Swords can hit hard so we need equipment that’s protective. We use padded jackets made especially for HEMA.

Jackets and pants are padded with both thick fabric and shock-absorbing materials. This can often be taken out or replaced as you see fit. Some give up protection for mobility, others accept the trade-off for the confidence it gives them to be well-protected.

They come in many styles and colours and can be custom-tailored to you on request.

Hard Protection

We use competion-rated fencing masks for head protection.

Hands are protected by special padded gloves. Fingers are important so there is a wealth of gloves for different weapons.

For harder sparring we use hard, plastic protectors. These can be gotten from many sources: HEMA stores, military surplus, eBay auctions of police riot gear and mountain bike gear to name a few.
