Try Historical Fencing for Free

A Part of training in Københavns Fægteklub along with Modern Olympic Fencing

Historical Fencing

We use swords like they did in the old days. The really old days. Back when Spain was full of gold, capes were rightfully in style and hats had feathers taller than a house cat.

The fencing masters from 1400-1800 left behind many manuscripts and manuals. We study these and recreate their techniques.

Price for Membership

No experience? No problem!

To join the club you simply go through a 2 months Beginner’s Course for 300 DKK.

After this membership is 150 DKK/month.

There is no deposit or sign-up fee.

If you’ve done Epee, Foil, or Sabre fencing before you’re already ahead — your footwork, parries and sense of distance will transfer nicely, especially to the Rapier.

Training Times

We train several days a week.

Tell us which weekdays you would like to train regularly, then we’ll find the right classes for you after the Beginner’s Class.

Beginners are also welcome to join the Advanced Classes.

Location

We train in Copenhagen at Vigerslev Allé School, 5 minutes from Valby Station.

Vigerslev Allé 108

2500 Valby, Copenhagen

Parking is free in the side streets to the school.

See the video below on exactly how to find us.

What to Bring

You just show up in training shoes, t-shirt and sports pants. Bring some water too.

Don’t worry about the rest — we lend you swords, mask, jacket, gloves and other protection.

We currently have a waiting list for new members. Put yourself on it below.

Just fill out the form below and for the date write 01/05/2025. This is just to make it easy to administer. It is not certain you can begin by May. We will contact you again when another beginner team will start.

The Weapons

There are many weapons within Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA). They are made by modern smiths and are as close to their real, historical cousins as possible, except blunt and safe.

They handle like real swords.

We train with rapiers, sabres and longswords.

Rapier_01.jpg

Rapier

Thrust-oriented duelling sword. The longest of the weapons. Rich and complicated. Often used with a shorter dagger in the other hand at the same time for both defense and offense.

For rapier we do Fabris and La Verdadera Destreza.

Sabre

Cut and thrust weapon. Shorter than most, but very agile.

We practice the British Military Sabre.

Longsword

Two-handed sword with surprising speed. Neither heavy nor clumsy as most think.

At the club we follow the Bolognese tradition.
